Hayabusa CEO Ken Clement visited the Global Kingston news studio last week to talk about the Hayabusa-Marvel boxing glove collaboration. This collection, known as the Marvel Hero Elite™ Boxing Glove series, is inspired by Marvel heroes Black Panther, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Iron Man and The Punisher.
“It’s huge for us,” Clement told Bill Welychka, co-host of The Morning Show on CKWS. “To team up with Marvel, and a brand like them and for them to have confidence and faith in us… they know we … (make) the best equipment. It’s pretty wild to be able to do a Marvel line of boxing gloves right now.”
“We make the best boxing gloves in the world”
Hayabusa, launched in 2006 and based in Kingston, ON, Canada, is known for creating innovative, durable and top-quality combat fitness gear meant for boxing, Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, mixed martial arts and more.
“Hayabusa is a global brand, so our focus is boxing gloves,” Clement said. “For us, it’s we make the best boxing gloves in the world and Marvel is our new partner.”
Georges St-Pierre, a UFC legend and Hayabusa sponsored athlete since 2012, played a key role in the initial design of the Marvel boxing gloves. It also helped that he had experience in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Batroc The Leaper in the 2014 flick Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
“He was part of the process as we developed them,” Clement said. “He’s a super comic book, Marvel fan. As we started to develop, when the partnership happened, he was ecstatic to be involved in it. So what we’re seeing now, he had his hands in the development process of this.”
